From The Heart

.

“Critics write out of

intellectual exercise,

not poets.

Poets write straight

from the heart.”

.

― Erica Jong

Elfje:

.

feel

the wind

just like love

it cannot be seen

heart

.

Haiku:

.

nature can be cruel

survival of the fittest

but it always works

.

Poem:

.

if I depended upon intellect

to write my little ditty

I would never find a subject

it’s the dumb trying to be witty

.

feeling less than

feeling more than

feeling all that I can

I’d rather be eating flan

.

the words I used yesterday

do not mean the same today

feelings put the color on the verse

always trying to avoid the blank curse

.

playing with the rhyme, no reason

adjusting the meter, high treason

just learning as I go along

maybe it will become a song

.

really perplexed when it comes to the coda

time to go out for some popcorn and soda

let’s end this verse with a happy heart

by squeezing out a big juicy fart.

A Poet’s Work . . .

A poet’s work . . .

to name the unnamable,

to point at frauds,

to take sides,

start arguments,

shape the world

and stop it

from going to sleep.”

.

― Salman Rushdie

Elfje:   (Cinquain)

out of the

depths of peaceful silence

he was crazy so he drank too much

he was drunk so often it drove him crazy

he didn’t have any trouble with denial

if you had my life you would drink too

barely alive
