What’s It Like

.

“no poet can know

what his poem

is going to be like

until he has written it.”

.

~ W.H. Auden

.

Elfje:

.

what

who, when

where, why, how

questions with no answers

surprise

.

Haiku:

.

migrating birds seen

seasons are about to change

natures ebb and flow

.

Poem:

.

choices: up or down

is it a smile or a frown

a positive attitude of gratitude

or is it just a swing of the mood

do others push your buttons

feelings extracted with a summons

is the mind attached to the emotion

can the view be swayed by a magic potion

is the Pollyanna being realistic

must you always consult a mystic

can we overthink every decision

are your instincts in collision

it’s time: push has come to shove

can you suggest an alternative

Conversely

.

“There is bad

in all good authors:

what a pity

the converse

isn’t true!”

.

~ Philip Larkin

.

Elfje:

.

trip

right foot

one step forward

left foot comes next

walking

.

Haiku:

.

unseasonably warm

natures decade cycle

skipping a season

.

Poem:

.

what price love

to relinquish heart and mind

to abandon what we dream of

to the obvious become blind

or is it just to compromise

to follow the dictates of the soul

to be fooled by the disguise

to enjoy being out of control

what price love

faith, the majority get it right the first time

the selfish must try more than once
