About merb010

Spring Hill, FL, United States Two nice old folks just hanging out, not hurting a bug or anything larger. The years have been kind to us and we now we are enjoying our golden years reading and writing. We are grateful for the God given talents that we now use to help others.

What Makes Sense

“Why should

have to

make sense.”

.Charlie Chaplin

Elfje: …… Cinquain ….. Classic: each word only one syllable.
grease paint
be the joke
roar of the crowd
the red sky at night
welcomes the sailors delight
mornings red warning
his story was nonsense
obvious lies
not worthy of a response

the addict prevaricated
because he could
the family was frustrated

without guilt the user steals
from Mothers purse
then go make his street deals

from checkers to relationships
he needed to cheat
when sober between mind trips

not half the man he used to be
no emotions
he refuses to agree

just counting the days
to his demise
the very end of the malaise

don’t use
don’t abuse
ask for help

I Have Fallen

“I have been
I have fallen
into poetry and
it has swallowed
me up.”

Keith Haring

Elfje: Cinquain
most learned
know it all
with a rare sense
Tanka: 5 x 7 x 5, 7 x 7
the young heart beats fast
and they called it puppy love
elated sweethearts

the crush of their young hormones
the lucky last forever
the addict has a backward brain
the thinking is rarely sane
negative and ugly are the main themes
nightmares replace the healthy dreams

the angel and the devil do their dance
the addict personality does not have a chance
motivated by what the addiction needs
out of control like a patch of bad weeds

to the sickest the name of the game is blame
they lack the basic emotion called shame
poor me, poor me, pour me a drink
to exercise a bad habit you don’t have to think

they are the ten percent who have little hope
their world is seen from the wrong end of a telescope
the bad habit , the ritual, is their only friend
jails, institutions and death are their premature end

unfortunate that the disease has no cure
to which, how much more can society endure
