The Final Achievement

.

“Simplicity is the

final achievement.

After one has played

a vast quantity of notes

and more notes,

it is simplicity

that emerges as

the crowning reward of art.”

~  Frédéric Chopin

azaleas blooming, red, white and pink
at the Masters it is the signature drink
the tournament renowned as  golf’s best
for the players it is the ultimate contest

for many it is physical prowess tested
Mark Twain called it a good walk wasted
for the spectators it is the ultimate garden
so pristine, Mother Nature will never need a pardon

azaleas announce spring from Florida to Pennsylvania
followed by the seedless families cryptogamia*
camera ready, a springtime beauty to behold
many precious memories more valued than gold

why does man hold on to his history
the ego is at the core of this mystery
who cares how many tournaments this man has won
let us find a way where everyone can have some fun

Self-understanding

.

“For what is a poem

but a hazardous attempt

at self-understanding:

it is the deepest part

of autobiography.”

Poem:

.

A beautiful thing
a work of art
it makes the soul sing
the flowers in the cart
the bird on the wing
Mother Nature knows her part

today my eyes must yearn to see
and learn what beauty means to me

the subtle curves of the human body
the rainbow displaying all of the colors
the culture that enjoys decors gaudy
or is it natures well camouflaged wonders

beauty grows when viewed from the heart
to touch, to smell, to imagine, satisfaction
is there a real message in abstract art
or just wishing to evoke a shocked reaction

calm, serene enjoying the aesthetic
a positive attitude of happiness
to looking beyond the artificial cosmetic
wonderful memories that are priceless
the real, the surreal, never synthetic
accepting all splendor as God’s kindness

today my eyes must yearn to see
and learn what beauty means to me
