“Poetry had always seemed
something I could turn to
in need – an emergency exit,
a lifebuoy, as well as
a justification.”

Poem:

stop it . . .turn off that damned TV
it was entertainment, now it’s propaganda
even football was reduced to a bended knee
aren’t you privy to the left wing memoranda
the Lone Ranger will never ride again
gone are Howdy Doody and Clarabell
no moral message, nothing but a brain drain
now, everything ends with a violent bombshell
we were warned by Orwell in 1984
social media has become our Big Brother
not an honest soul remains to keep score
time to pray for a fairy godmother
be a friend, have a friend, do something nice
good deeds travel fast with no purchase price

“Though my soul
may set in darkness,
it will rise
in perfect light;
I have loved
the stars too fondly
to be fearful of the night.”

fearful of the night
things heard and felt but not seen
boogie man stories
big brother is watching us
facts that we will never see

Poem: win or lose
.
oh God, why me
not now, I have to pee
I haven’t seen what I came to see
the home team scoring a victory
standing in the restroom listening to the stadium roar
I just knew that the hero made the winning score
my story will always be, I was there, I swore
on a stack of Bibles, no need for an encore
stadium seats thirty thou, a hundred said they were there
aren’t that many people out here in the middle of nowhere
the team couldn’t afford the hero so he was traded
the future looks bleak for a team so degraded
my loyalty remains true, I am a fanatic
we leave it to the sports writers to deliver the melodramatic
after all it is just entertainment, boys playing a game
win or lose, the world will remain the same
