chasing the seasons

the hundred year storm

rarely arrives on schedule

when the earth wobbles

with a nudge from the judge
with the attendance slip in hand
they show up at a meeting
in total fear of the dreaded remand

the look on the face is usually confusion
people smiling, laughing, and joking
what do they have to be so damn happy about
maybe it’s the funny weed they were smoking

greetings of cheer, glad you are here
fifty two of these sessions until probation is over
punishment still better than sitting in jail
just once a week, all the while staying sober ? ? ?

some hear the message and open their minds
for many the addiction is stronger
not taking the suggestions, the ego rebels
the willpower can’t fight the disease any longer

one day at a time for those who make it
the milestone celebrations are reinforcing
having become a part of a fellowship
the one year cake is very deserving

for the miracles the years pass swiftly by
the judge and his nudge are ancient history
enjoying the life that is happy, joyous and free
can’t wait to help another by telling their story

up and down, slow and fast

do you fit into a typical typecast

does your life fit your personality
does your personality fit your life
can you claim a dual modality
how well do you handle strife

can’t answer any of the questions above
who really cares
it’s always your life to do with as you love
upstairs or downstairs
