Nobody, I think,
ought to read poetry,
or look at pictures or statues,
who cannot find a great deal
more in them than the poet
or artist has actually expressed.
Their highest merit is suggestiveness.

does God have a heart
does He think and feel
is He above being smart
is He really, really, real
why does everything have an opposite
will good possibly overcome evil
could hate or love predominate
shall man ever learn to be civil
if we had the answers
would it matter anyways
everything succumbs to cancers
does God count in days
is this life to be enjoyed ? ? ?
if so, ignore the answers and questions
know that the end we cannot avoid
and just follow mothers directions

do not teach men
new and moving truths
do not deserve
to be read.”

can the man write if he has no talent
can the man sing if he has no song
did anyone notice that the church bells are silent
why does the news concentrate on the wrong
when Dr. Peale died so did positive thinking
the mega congregations reap their millions
the liberals give while the coffers are shrinking
who gave talking heads the right to opinions
the pendulum swings from side to side
the tolerant and the bigot argue their points
public sentiment goes along for the ride
reality and fantasy seek separate disjoints
will there ever be a middle of the road
can man find peace among the discord
will it be possible to have an equitable civil code
can we all agree on what to call our Lord
what would happen if we all knelt to pray
would the universe give us all the same karma
would we be required to put it in our dossier
can we measure up to the varied vara
think optimistic, be the solution, be perfect
the Great Creator has made no junk
surprise, don’t do what others expect
you may even make a pet out of a skunk
have faith
where would the world be without hope
