A Dupe To Illusions

.

“Perhaps it is better

to wake up after all,

even to suffer,

rather than to remain

a dupe to illusions

all one’s life.”

.

~ Kate Chopin

.

Elfje:         (Cinquain)

.

disillusion

total confusion

another optical illusion

never a forgone conclusion

frustration

.

Lune:    5 / 3 / 5

.

selfish, self-centered

no respect

me, me, only me

.

Poem:

.

politics as usual

the ego is seeking the publicity
the ultimate goal is duplicity
those who support them are guilty of complicity
gerrymandering has nothing to do with simplicity

vilifying the opponent, close to slander
heaven forbid that they would use candor
the working man an innocent bystander
they will saying anything just to pander

race, color, creed just a percentage
more human fodder made into a silage
writers avoiding the subliminal message
vote for me, avoid the looming presage

liberal, conservative, middle of the road
to which vote is our allegiance owed
is there still such a thing as a moral code
don’t let this be just another repeat episode

a government by the people and for the people
may it ring from each and every church steeple
just once, may we have the truth come out
believe, have faith, your vote does have clout

Death and Commas

.

.

“Poets are

interested primarily

in death and commas. ”

.

~ Carolyn Kizer

.

.

Elfje:

.

commas

colon, period

grouping words grammatically

sentences, clauses and phrases

punctuation

.

Haiku:

.

all things diappear

returning to Mother Earth

food  for the future

.

Poem:

.

life and ampersand

.

in conjunction , &, but, if
immortalized in a glyph
science defines the living
with just a few links missing

poetry fills in the voids
using words that were Freud’s
ego, superego and id
excluding those living off of the grid

you’re OK, I’m OK
a few civil laws to obey
creating more than death and commas
dreaming of living in the Bahamas

a poem a day keeps the doctor away
keeps the mind from turning gray
smile, life is not all commas and dramas
think cozy, snug in your warm pajamas

it’s always time to enjoy a conjunction
happiness is basking in the realm of dysfunction
and, if, maybe; always get in the last word
but, don’t ever forget that bloomin’ password

poetry is not all death and commas
poetry is paying tribute to our Momma’s
