Work Hard

.

‘We are all

born ignorant,

but one must

work hard to

remain stupid.”

.

~ Benjamin Franklin

.

Elfje:            (Cinquain)

.

tickling

funny bone

make me laugh

shivering head to toe

tingling

.

Tanka:             5-7-5, 7-7

.

for those who have served

acknowledge that they exist

welcoming them home

too young to play politics

more than old enough to die

.

Poem:

.

a heavy cold mist rolled in
hiding the tears of the has-been
once equal to the mighty Zeus
now just another to be let loose

a woe to him who has achieved fame
adoring fans remembering the stage name
once the commander of the red carpet
today his pictures are a dime at the flea market

his phone calls are not returned
behind him all  his bridges have burned
memories are what’s keeping him alive
fantasies motivate his will to survive

although his ego has taken a hit
he can still smile when using his wit
he knows God is not to blame
he is thankful all the same

growing old cannot be avoided
a healthy attitude cannot be disappointed
there is no use in crying over what was
pray that your life has a grandfather clause
