A Dormant Poet

“Know that there

is often hidden

in us a dormant poet,

always young and alive.”

.
~ Alfred De Musset-Pathay

Elfje: Cinquain

.

hibernating

nature sleeping

frozen in time

all the world quiescent

dormant

.

Senryu:

.

fear made him strike out

it was mock sabre rattling

feigned anger and rage

.

Poem:

.

glorious flights of fantasy
having fun ignoring reality
this world is just too damn serious
everyone trying to solve the mysterious

was it a giggle or was it a snicker
candy is dandy but liquor is quicker
only the normal claim to be normal
you must be a God to say you’re immortal

every day is a good day for a party
just ask the big pooka named Harvey
no reason is ever needed to celebrate
all that is required is a few people to congregate

it is the happier occasions we love to keep
all those things and a good nights sleep
double the fun, lets have a tag team match
just remember where they put the escape hatch

having so much fun, wish this could go on forever
if not, we’ll quote the granddaughter, “Whatever.”

Quarrel

“We make out of the

quarrel with others,

rhetoric,

but of the quarrel

with ourselves,

poetry.”

Who

does not

quarrel with themselves

could have, should have

maybe

Haiku:

.

why must I grow up

seasons of our discontent

choices, choices, luck

Poem:     is there a reason

.

is there a reason, is there a rhyme
life moves on in spite of me
did I, could I, have missed my prime
did I learn nothing on my father’s knee.

growing old is not an option
acting mature is a matter of opinion
steadily we rely more upon the naproxen
the hot toddy and a nap our best companion

been there, done that
I just can’t remember where or when
reduced to the trivial chitchat
the weather is the common denominator for all men

look in the mirror and have a good laugh
don’t take yourself so damn serious
a giggle a day will cut the aging in half
only God can explain the mysterious

Today is the only day we have to live
enjoy it on the positive, laughable side
try your hardest to do better than just survive
sleep well my friend, saying I tried, I tried. . .
