“You see
the magic in
a fairy tale,
you can face
the future.”

Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland
fabulous stories that are so grand
Wizard of Oz, Winnie-the-Pooh
forever and forever, always new
stories that piqued the imagination
giving little minds a good foundation
Charlotte’s Web, Goodnight Moon,
And the dish ran away with the spoon
those that read had a real childhood
Cat In The Hat, The Little Engine That Could
stories with lessons we needed to learn
from good and evil the wisdom to discern
may the next generation not get lost
face in the screen with their fingers crossed
support your library, give books a home
ignorance is what lead to the fall of Rome

“In the great green room,
there was a telephone
And a red balloon
And a picture of a cat
jumping over the moon…”

Poem:
.
it is the words that make the rhyme
the poet only chooses the time
how many syllables in his meter
a cadence like a tom tom beater
ideas and stories to be related
using the words others created
poetic license to make his own form
seeking ways to ignore the norm
a challenge to complete the whole idea
without imitating the ave maria
fantasy usually gives way to truth
experiences drawn from ones youth
the poem signals that it is done
the poet insists on having more fun
they sit and stare at each other
the poet hoping for a fairy godmother
someone’s idea was to write a poem
everyone waiting for a God given omen
alas, no story, no rhyme, no rhythm
poem and poet agree, we’re done
we’ll let the reader look for the symbolism
