“Though my soul
may set in darkness,
it will rise
in perfect light;
I have loved
the stars too fondly
to be fearful of the night.”

fearful of the night
things heard and felt but not seen
boogie man stories
big brother is watching us
facts that we will never see

Poem: win or lose
.
oh God, why me
not now, I have to pee
I haven’t seen what I came to see
the home team scoring a victory
standing in the restroom listening to the stadium roar
I just knew that the hero made the winning score
my story will always be, I was there, I swore
on a stack of Bibles, no need for an encore
stadium seats thirty thou, a hundred said they were there
aren’t that many people out here in the middle of nowhere
the team couldn’t afford the hero so he was traded
the future looks bleak for a team so degraded
my loyalty remains true, I am a fanatic
we leave it to the sports writers to deliver the melodramatic
after all it is just entertainment, boys playing a game
win or lose, the world will remain the same

“Reclaiming the sacred
in our lives
naturally brings us
close once more to
the wellsprings of poetry.”

the table levitated at the seance
from this world to another by conveyance
how many souls are there in limbo
is there a special place for the hero
when the body dies is there a lingering spirit
while channeling must one be coherent
did parapsychology invent the poltergeist
such supernatural talk the bane of the theist
the backward collar a symbol of the clerical
a uniform designed by the monks chimerical
did Serling invent the twilight zone
do you know what they will put on your tombstone
can you differentiate between the nightmare and the dream
did Edvard Munch picture you when he painted the scream
the supernatural tale relies on the final twist
the question is: do we really exist . . . ? ? ?
