it is not the yets that worry me it is those darn agains that scare me sober never again crying over a lost church key sweating booze, that terrible body odor
it all started by falling off my father’s knee never again to have a debilitating hangover never again to go on a weekend spree gagging at the sight of the pizza that was leftover
it all started when the first wife divorced me never again having to be the one to disagree never again to tell the officer that he was wrong can’t believe that the jail cell bars are that strong
so I haven’t been institutionalize yet, why worry never again being sorry and having to lower oneself so I haven’t died yet, why worry never again having to think about killing myself
never wanting to feel that way again, I worry the only again I want is to go to another meeting so if you will excuse me I’m in a hurry due to covid-19 there will be limited seating .

there was a man, he wasn’t from Limerick
his manners and attitude were prehistoric
couldn’t tell if he was drunk or not
brain cells burned, he was a crackpot
did he drink until he was crazy
was his brain always that hazy
or was he crazy and drank too much
alcohol was his emotional crutch
Judge finally said enough is enough
tired of putting up with all the funny stuff
attend some meetings or go to jail
easy decision so he got out on bail
found the rooms, did as he was told
followed the suggestions his life to remold
silly turned out to be his sense of humor
cleaned up he did not appear to be an ex boozer
this was a man whose first life was satirical
given a second life that proved to be a miracle
became a good example by attending meetings
enjoying his new life with sincere honest feelings
his message was one of hope for everyone
if he could do it, it can be done by anyone
