A Dormant Poet

“Know that there

is often hidden

in us a dormant poet,

always young and alive.”

.
~ Alfred De Musset-Pathay

hibernating

nature sleeping

frozen in time

all the world quiescent

dormant

.

Senryu:

.

fear made him strike out

it was mock sabre rattling

feigned anger and rage

Poem:

.

glorious flights of fantasy
having fun ignoring reality
this world is just too damn serious
everyone trying to solve the mysterious

was it a giggle or was it a snicker
candy is dandy but liquor is quicker
only the normal claim to be normal
you must be a God to say you’re immortal

every day is a good day for a party
just ask the big pooka named Harvey
no reason is ever needed to celebrate
all that is required is a few people to congregate

it is the happier occasions we love to keep
all those things and a good nights sleep
double the fun, lets have a tag team match
just remember where they put the escape hatch

having so much fun, wish this could go on forever
if not, we’ll quote the granddaughter, “Whatever.”

Nonsense

.

“If I had a world of my own,

everything would be nonsense.

Nothing would be what it is,

because everything would be

what it isn’t.

And contrary wise, what is,

it wouldn’t be.

And what it wouldn’t be,

it would.

You see?”

Poem:

.

poetry so serious
the truth so mysterious
thinking outside of the box
being as sly as a fox

do poems need to be true
words all mixed up like a stew
having fun piquing one’s imagination
choosing a lyric that is thracian

defining the poets little world by writing
avoiding the mundane by trying to be exciting
making it up as they go along
glad to know that they can’t be wrong

those who can’t rhyme as they compose
justify the effort by calling it poetic prose
the poem should always be a total performance
even when the content is gobbledygook nonsense

believe, you are a poet, you simply don’t know it
just pretend that you’re building a banana split
so write, write, the words precisely right
and allow your soul to take flight.
