“One impulse from a vernal wood
May teach you more of man,
Of moral evil and of good,
Than all the sages can.”

alas, that man no longer learns
what Nature so gladly teaches
how survival of the fittest turns
a slow evolution of our features
nature has been displaced by city jungles
man’s attitude influenced by race and religion
majority of concerns regard daily struggles
billions ignorant about nuclear fission
pollution encroaches upon Walden’s pond
oceans clogged by plastic litter
stupid believes the cure is a government bond
or maybe the magic of a presidential twitter
Chicago’s sounds come from gunshots
birds gave up singing long ago
San Francisco’s sanctuary is tied in knots
innocent victims and narcotics dough
Paris riots over global warming
religious radicals causing much woe
Los Angeles is draining the Colorado
extremist need to go with the flow
today is your chance to cure the burn
breath deep, breath slow
find a bad habit to overturn
learn from nature which way to go

“What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows…”

what value human emotions
many deeper than the oceans
where mental meets physical
what could be more paradoxical
avoiding the devils who cause angst
those whose cheer comes from the Bronx
seeking to hang out with the angels
like the rich who live down south in Naples (Florida that is)
let’s begin with the family who taught us
let’s hope they didn’t throw us under the bus
then there are those feelings for the opposite sex
for many it is gloom, doom and a terrible hex
should I laugh or should I cry
might I suffer from chronic dry eye
can I live a day without emotions
will my heart suffer a self induced implosion
what should I do if I cannot feel
my senses riding a big ferris wheel
no fear, my emotions and brain are on backwards
I’ve become an expert at cleaning up afterwards
