Poem:

.

The only truth we have
is the real life we have lived
life in Hebrew, haim, to the rav
from memory the past is derived

ego’s pride makes up the lies
the false life we wanted to live
trying to avoid the booby prize
avoiding effort we needed to give

was it real or was it a dream
times swift pace makes life a blur
layers of reality from a deep running stream
ambitions which events had us defer

Tomorrow, God granted,
will we live the truth
with real can we be contented
or must we seek the fountain of youth

don’t waste time waiting for the last dance
if you are given the chance
live a life that you want to be true
a life with no lies is easy to review

Poem:

.

he lied and he lied and he lied
his ego possessed too much pride
he lived in a world of grandiosity

he took and he took and he took
it was to be his by hook or by crook
he never heard of the word reciprocity

he cheated and he cheated and he cheated
the world owed him, he was so conceited
the only thing he ever created was animosity

he bragged and he bragged and he bragged
no one listened, they had him tagged
he avoided reality with his pomposity

he gave and he gave and he gave
to others he had become their slave
he overdid the word generosity

he wondered and he wondered and he wondered
why so much of his life had been squandered
his heart and his mind were engaged in tortuosity

he listened and he listened and he listened
the remorse, the shame, the ego were lessened
a little bit of guilt piqued his curiosity

his attitude reversed, his mind shifted,
a light came on and his ego was lifted
he could breathe with jocosity

he prayed and he prayed and he prayed
from the straight and narrow he never strayed
he became God’s beacon of luminosity
