they read the same paragraph
there were two different opinions
they saw the same photograph
neither had the same visions
who is to judge right or wrong
as long as nobody gets hurt
providing the price is just a song
given that the first course is dessert
how important is it anyhow
this too shall pass
does it make one raise the eyebrow
does it make you first in class
be tolerant, allow others to be right
be patient, prayers are answered in God’s time
be forgiving, be willing to give up the fight
be generous, brother, can you spare a dime
be the person God wants you to be
a soul that is happy, joyous and free.

“I said:
‘A line will take us
hours maybe;
Yet if it does not seem
a moment’s thought,
Our stitching and unstitching
has been naught.”

Poem:

family stories handed down
characters and events
a legacy of disputed renown
all told using phoney accents
the uncle who was the clown
the pioneers who lived in tents
the forest that they all cut down
the ones who worked for presidents
the maker of her own wedding gown
the aunt who gave the best presents
a horse thief who lost a showdown
the old homestead with the picket fence
embellished by generations on down
who among us can dispute their contents
never a sad face, dry eye or a frown
will future scions have a laugh at my expense
