No, Thank You

“If the only

was ‘thank you,’

that would be

enough.”

Poem:

.

he thought what he felt was a feeling
but the alcohol always kept him reeling
looking forward he saw only the ceiling
his reality was never truly appealing

near death made him change his ways
time allowed him to see through the haze
his body recovered from the sick malaise
to a Higher Power he gives the praise

it became a slew of feelings that he felt
his roller coaster emotions needed a seat belt
his cold stone heart had begun to melt
a new hand of cards he had been dealt

a new friend and then more friends
a fellowship that taught him to make amends
how the wreckage of the past to cleanse
and the twelve steps that paid big dividends

today his feelings are a joy to explore
emotions that are allowed to soar
a life that has been his to restore
peace, serenity and so much more

he loved her so much
spirits entwined to the end
he was left to grieve

a generation now gone
time does not wait for a soul

.

Poem:

.

Death, the poets greatest fear
the thought of losing someone so dear
always searching for the meaning of life
the heart wounded by an emotional knife

why that person, why not me
the only human with whom I could agree
their unwavering love knew no limits
souls that were touched by holy spirits

never alone, their echoes live in our hearts
lonely because the laughter never starts
unknown triggers renew the grief
inner turmoil caused by an emotional thief

let the tears flow, they cleanse the soul
because we know for whom the bells toll
