Paradiso

.

“It is difficult

to write a paradiso

when all the superficial

indications are that

you ought to write

an apocalypse.”

Poem:

.

mumbling through a foggy dream
sleep walking on a balance beam
haunted by many past indiscretions
practicing the giving of false impressions

never satisfied with the life I lived
envious of those who have so much to give
of material things I was jealous
resentful or those whose lives were zealous

found some steps to show me the way
a path that lead me out of the gray
lead by an unlikely band of kindred spirit
positive souls with spunk and merit

who knew that life could begin again
a reason to live, new purposes to attain
a disease that can be put into remission
a Higher Power’s will brought to fruition

ever mindful of the built in forgetter
off to a meeting to help me get better
always thankful for that fateful God incident
knowing that it was not a simple coincident

being positive, being the person my God wants me to be
a soul lucky enough to be happy, joyous and free

They’re much too complicated.

You can only write books

Poem:                              (puns allowed)

.

he was a mighty man the legends say
feet spread wide he could span the bay
lumberjacks said he was the best they ever saw
friend of the mountain lion and the bear
his custom was to appear out of nowhere

they say he stood as high as the redwoods
natives believed he was a child of the gods
for miners he was a man they could really dig
his knack was helping people in distress
he was the guardian angel of the pony express

he helped tame America’s wild wild west
avoiding praise he was forever modest
for the pioneer he was the ultimate trailblazer
he was a very close cousin of Paul Bunyan
descended from a chief of the Chipewyan

he answered to the name of Mighty Mike
there was not a creature he did not like
for the homesteader he was a guiding light
his spirit, they say, still lives in the mountains
gurgling streams and big skies his favorite domains

pay homage to Mike whenever you can
seek peace between nature and the human
